I like to believe I am telling the truth is a touring exhibition of new work by Manitoba artist Chris Reid that includes large-scale drawings, quirky re-interpretations of the Ukrainian Easter egg and multi-media sculptural installations. Reid’s lush visual narratives simultaneously modernize the Ukrainian folklore characters Baba Yaga, Koshchiy and Pavouk the spider as well as present idiosyncratic anthropomorphic cats, dolls and bread. All of these figures play out their actions in surreal Canadian Prairie landscapes and in unsettling domestic settings.
