East-Man Rural Arts Mentorship Program Showcase, February 2012

Rural Arts Mentorships

Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) is committed to providing mentorship opportunities to rural Manitoba artists. Whether in partnership with Manitoba Arts Network (MAN), Portage District Arts Council, the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba or other arts organizations, MAWA delivers mentorship programs in different regions of the province each year.

These mentorships build community, bringing visual artists together to network and learn. They provide professional feedback from an experienced artist-mentor through constructive critique. And they impart valuable information regarding the business of being an artist.

Mini-mentorships take place over a weekend. More in-depth mentorship are six-months in length.

Rural Arts Mentorship Program: Interlake Region

September 2012 – March 2013

The Manitoba Arts Network is partnering with Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) to deliver a mentorship program to rural artists in the Interlake Region of Manitoba. This program is taking place over a six-month period from September 2012 through March 2013 with a break over Christmas. A group of four mentees, Wanda Kopec, Audrey Lue, Michael Cherlet and Rosemary Dzus, are being co-mentored by professional artists Diane Whitehouse and Linda Fairfield.

The program will culminate with an exhibition of new work by the mentees, produced during the mentorship program. The exhibition will be showcased at the New Iceland Heritage Museum in Gimli in March 2 2013, and run until March 30.  The exhibition opening will be March 2nd at 7pm.
