FAQ below

I AM INTERESTED IN DONATING BUT HAVE SOME QUESTIONS. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?

Please email Alison Davis at info@mawa.ca or call 204-949-9490. The MAWA office is open Wednesday – Friday, 10am – 4pm.

DO I NEED TO LET MAWA KNOW IN ADVANCE THAT I AM PLANNING TO DONATE AN ARTWORK?

We’d love to know if you are planning to donate a work because it helps us plan the event.  Please email info@mawa.ca or call 204-949-9490 to let us know. However, if you don’t get a chance to tell us in advance it is okay to just come by during our drop off times.

WHERE AND WHEN CAN I DROP OFF MY WORK?

We accept donations at MAWA, 611 Main St. Wednesday - Friday, 10am - 4pm, June 16 - July 16 and Saturdays, June 19 and July 10, noon - 4pm.

If we do not receive your artwork by July 16 at 4pm, we may not be able to include your work in the auction. If none of these times work for you, contact MAWA’s office at 204-949-9490.

WHAT KIND OF WORK DO YOU ACCEPT?

Artists are asked to donate one piece of art in any media.

CAN I DONATE MORE THAN ONE ARTWORK?

No, although MAWA very much appreciates your generosity we are only able to accept one artwork per artist.

DO I HAVE TO SUBMIT ANYTHING WITH MY WORK?

Please fill out a MAWA artist contract and submit it with your artwork. This allows us to keep track of your work, hang or install according to your instructions, and title accordingly. You can fill out a contract at MAWA when you drop off your submission, or you can download a contract to fill out in advance.

IS THERE A MINIMUM BID?

Yes! Each artist will be able to set a minimum bid on their work, at a level they are comfortable with, from $50 up. We want to ensure that artwork is auctioned for an appropriate value. Wondering how to set your opening bid? Ask yourself at what point you would rather have your work back than see it go for less than a certain price.

CAN I CHOOSE TO RETAIN A PERCENTAGE OF THE SALE PRICE?

Yes! Artists may choose to donate 100% of the sale to MAWA, donate 75% to MAWA and retain 25%, or donate 50% to MAWA and retain 50%.  Artists must choose what percentage to donate when dropping off the work and indicate the choice on the artist contract.  The percentage cannot be changed once the work has been dropped off. Should the work sell, artists who choose to retain a percentage will be issued a cheque from MAWA that will be mailed to them along with the charitable tax receipt for the donated percentage about a month following the sale of the work.

I’M NOT A MEMBER OF MAWA. CAN I STILL DONATE ARTWORK?

Yes, MAWA gratefully welcomes donations from members and non-members alike. We soooooo appreciate donations of artwork from artists. We couldn’t do this fundraiser without our valued artist donors.

CAN ONLY WOMEN PARTICIPATE?

No! We welcome all artists to participate in Over the Top! We regret we cannot accept children’s work.

WILL I RECEIVE A TAX RECEIPT?

Yes! Those artists whose works are sold will receive a charitable tax receipt. Charitable tax receipts will be issued for the amount donated to MAWA from the sale of the artwork.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY WORK DOES NOT SELL?

If your work remains UNSOLD at the end of Over the Top, MAWA staff will contact you by phone or email to let you know and ask you to make arrangements to pick up your work. If we do not contact you that means your work sold.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CHARITABLE TAX RECEIPT?

Charitable tax receipts will be mailed approximately one month after the sale of your work.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CHEQUE IF I OPT TO RETAIN A PRECENTAGE OF THE SALE?

Cheques will be mailed with the charitable tax receipts approximately one month after the sale of your work.

CAN I MAIL MY ARTWORK DONATION?

Yes, donations can be mailed at the donor’s expense to MAWA, 611 Main Street Winnipeg, MB R3B 1E1. If the work remains unsold at the end of the auction MAWA will arrange for return shipping of the work at the donor’s expense.

HOW WILL THE AUCTION WORK ONLINE?

MAWA will photograph each work and post it with the title, artist’s name, dimensions, materials and one social media or web link on chartityauction.bid/mawa, a secure and professional auction site.

CAN I CONTRIBUTE TO THE RAFFLE BASKETS?

We are also asking our members to collect new retail items for our raffle baskets. Please, no corporate swag! A charitable tax receipt will be issued to the individuals or businesses for the retail value of the donation of products (under Canadian tax law, charitable tax receipts cannot be issued for services or gift certificates). Please email info@mawa.ca with “raffle donation” in the subject line.
