Ari/Aria Menezes is a Brazilian artist who has worked in paper cutouts since 2010. Her pieces reference the knitting and crochet patterns of her Portuguese grandmothers and great-grandmothers, using a different technique and updated themes. She explores synchrony, contrasts, the balance between negative and positive, emptiness and fullness, optical illusions, nature and the sacred feminine. She finds that the manual work of papercutting is sometimes lonely and looks forward to exchanging experiences with other artists.
