As part of Divergence & Connection, an exhibition of the work of 12 artists opening April 3 at MHC Gallery, MAWA and FLASH are presenting a free artist talk by Toronto artist April Hickox.
Hickox is a lens-based artist who has mined the distinctions between personal and public through film, video, photography, and installation. She produces through a process of systematic recording and observation. An active community leader, she is the Founding Director of Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, and a founding member of Tenth Muse Studio and Artscape, Toronto. Currently Hickox is an Associate Professor of Photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto. Her work was recently included in the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s exhibition In Her Own Words, featuring Canadian women artists. Hickox’s work can be found in numerous public and private Canadian Collections. She will speak about recent bodies of work: Observance, Vantage Point and the newest, Attribute.
