This lecture offers a glimpse into the portrayal of mothering in contemporary art contexts, and will include examples by international artists who conceptualize mothering and caregiving through creative practices. The timing of this talk marks the opening of the Artist Mothers at MAWA exhibition Earth’s Mother.

S. Reyes is a mother, an artist, a former K-12 art teacher and a graduate student of art education. She is currently researching artist mother collectives and artists with creative practices that are centred on mothering and caregiving, as part of her PhD work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
