The pregnant human form in art is historically uncommon and controversial, the depiction of pregnant or birthing bodies created by women artists even more so. In this lecture, Kelly Klick will explore how and why pregnancy has been artistically represented throughout the eras, highlighting the few female artists who dared to depict the gravid state and its curious absence throughout much of art history. Klick will also dip into debates that one might have overheard in the art world hundreds of years ago or just last week.

Online broadcasts will feature ASL translation. Within a couple of weeks, the First Friday Lectures will be posted with captioning and ASL at mawa.ca/videos/lectures.

Free, everyone welcome! Please wear a mask if attending in person. Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8222603835
