Job Opportunity: MAWA Indigenous Program Associate
Contract position, approximately 6 hours per week, $24/hour
Come and join us! Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) seeks a Program Associate who will be responsible for co-facilitating two MAWA Indigenous programs and assisting with other MAWA programs and events as required. They will be a member of the MAWA team, participating in and contributing to discussions regarding all MAWA programming and initiatives, and helping with large projects.
This position requires an outgoing personality, and excellent listening, communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of Indigenous beading techniques and cultural practices is essential. Experience in public speaking or program coordination is an asset.
Working with MAWA’s Program and Outreach Coordinator and Executive Directors, the Program Associate will co-facilitate the Cross-Cultural Beading Circle (two Monday evenings per month) and Indigenous Art Nights (three evenings per year). Workshop leaders will be hired for these programs, so the co-facilitator’s job will be to correspond with participants and workshop leaders, prepare supplies, set-up the space, welcome folks, and assist leaders and participants during workshops. Occasionally, MAWA’s Program Associate will also work at other MAWA programs.
The Program Associate will also work with MAWA’s Program and Outreach Coordinator to research and identify new instructors, and conduct outreach in the beading community.
Work hours will be 2-3 evenings per month (often Mondays) and one afternoon per week (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday).
MAWA is an artist-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting the intellectual and creative development of women, non-binary and 2Spirit women-identifying people in the visual arts by providing an ongoing forum for education and critical dialogue. Founded in 1984, MAWA currently has over 340 members. MAWA provides mentorships, workshops, lectures, critical discussion groups and informal networking opportunities to the visual arts community. MAWA’s office is open Wednesday-Friday, 10am to 4pm, and at other times for programs.
