MAWA bids a fond farewell to Aika Dorcas Kwayu, who has worked with us for the past 14 months. Aika has done it all: welcomed you to umpteen events, made countless beading kits, assembled hundreds of Resilience publications, organized the Resource Library, packed MAWA after last year’s fire, unpacked, organized, and more. We will especially miss her withering deadpan when confronted by the absurdities of life and the travesty of patriarchy. We appreciate all you have brought to MAWA, Aika!
In November, we welcomed a new Student Intern, Patricia Mhoja Kwayu. Does that name sound familiar? She is Aika’s sister; MAWA runs in their family! Patricia will be assisting MAWA with outreach to newcomer organizations, social media and maybe even starting a young woman’s gender activism group. Is that something that interests you? If so, email [email protected].
MAWA is grateful to the University of Manitoba Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, who funds these paid intern positions. All of the young women who have worked with MAWA have brought intelligence, energy and fresh perspectives. We couldn’t do all that we do without their labour.
