Note: the number of tickets is finite, so act fast to avoid disappointment! Tickets provide entry to Over the Top on Sunday, April 7. Your ticket number is also your bidding number.
Attending the bidding kick-off on the evening of Friday, April 5 or on Saturday, April 6 is free, but you will need a ticket to bid on artwork(s).
HOW MANY AUCTION LOTS ARE THERE?
Artwork is separated into 6 colour-coded auction lots. Check the schedule when you arrive at Over the Top on Sunday, April 7 to see when each lot will close. The first lot closes at 3pm and the last lot closes at 4:50pm.
HOW DO I BID ON ARTWORK?
All art is auctioned by silent auction. Every bidder needs a ticket. Your ticket has a number on it. That is your bidder number. Each artwork has a corresponding bidding sheet on the wall and lists the minimum starting bid. To make a bid, locate the bidding sheet for the artwork. Write your bidder number and your bid on the bidding sheet. Bidding increases by increments of $10 or more. If you really want an artwork, bid higher to avoid disappointment! You cannot remove your bid once it has been made. A five-minute warning is given before each lot closes. A siren signals that a lot is closed. The winning bid must be completely written before the siren sounds.
THE EVENT ON SUNDAY IS TOO BUSY FOR ME. CAN I SEE AND BID ON THE ART AT A QUIETER TIME?
Yes! Come to MAWA on Friday, April 5 from 5-7pm or Saturday, April 6 from 12-5pm. See the art and bid without a crowd! If you’re just looking, entry Friday and Saturday is free. If you want to make a bid you will need a $10 ticket. High bids placed Friday and Saturday are often successful! Note: bids placed on Friday and Saturday are secured with a credit card.
I SAW SOMETHING I REALLY WANT BUT CAN’T ATTEND ON SUNDAY. CAN MAWA PROVIDE SOMEONE TO BID ON MY BEHALF? I DON’T WANT TO BE OUTBID!
Yes, MAWA has volunteer proxy bidders who can make bids for you. Talk to a volunteer at the front desk on Friday or Saturday or email [email protected]. We’ll take your bidder number, the title of the artwork(s) you want to bid on and the maximum amount you are willing to bid and give that information to a proxy bidder.
IF I AM THE SUCCESSFUL BIDDER BUT I AM NOT PRESENT WHEN THE AUCTION CLOSES WILL I BE NOTIFIED?
Yes, but please notify the volunteers at the front desk that you are leaving so that we can record your phone number and bidder number. You will be notified by phone or email the Wednesday – Friday following the auction. MAWA is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
CAN I WIN RAFFLE PRIZES EVEN IF I AM NOT PRESENT FOR THE DRAW?
Yes, raffle tickets are for sale Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you are not going to be present for the draw on Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm you can leave your raffle stubs with a raffle volunteer and we will call you the Wednesday – Friday following the auction if you are a winner.
WILL THERE BE CUPCAKES THIS YEAR?
Yes, there will be all-you-can-eat cupcakes on Sunday, April 7!
WHY ARE THERE NO CUPCAKES ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY?
Even though MAWA has incredibly generous volunteers who supply cupcakes for Sunday afternoon, they simply cannot provide cupcakes for the entire weekend. Remember Friday and Saturday are free-entry and a chance to focus on the art without the crowds. If you want to taste a few (or more) of the 1000 cupcakes you’ll have to buy a ticket and come on Sunday afternoon!
DO CHILDREN NEED TICKETS?
Children aged 10 and under are free. Children over the age of 10 do need a ticket.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
During the day, there is metered street parking in front of MAWA for $2.50/hour. After 5:30pm and on Sundays, street parking is available free of change. There are several paid lots nearby, including Sports Manitoba on Pacific Ave. and a public lot at Main St. and Logan Ave. that charge $2 for the first hour and $1 for each additional hour.
WHAT ABOUT BUSES?
MAWA is easy to reach by public transit. The northbound bus stops 60 paces from MAWA’s door and is serviced by bus routes 15, 16, 18, 20, 44, 45 and 47. The southbound bus stop is across Main St. from MAWA, 80 paces from the door, and is serviced by bus 15, 16, 18, 20, 26, 44, 45 and 47.
IS MAWA ACCESSIBLE?
Yes, MAWA is a ground level space with 2 gender neutral, accessible washrooms. Although MAWA does not have an automated entrance door, many volunteers will be on hand if assistance is required. However, the Sunday afternoon Cupcake Party is crowded and noisy. If you need a quieter experience please come on Friday or Saturday. For other access requests, or if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact the office at 204-949-9490 or email [email protected].
