While in Winnipeg, Yan intends to experiment. She will research the history of this land and visit remaining pockets of urban nature, to collect visual materials through photography and sketching.

Yan was born in the People's Republic of China and lives in the Netherlands, where she creates paintings, graphic works and artist books. Through careful observation and contemplative painting, she uncovers the beauty and poetry of found objects and ordinary things. She is supported in this residency by the Mondriaan Fund.
