First Friday Lecture: Artist Talk by Katherine Boyer

  • Friday, October 2, 2020
  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm
  • Zoom & Facebook Live

Katherine Boyer is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is focussed on methods bound to textile arts and the handmade, including fabric manipulation, papermaking, woodworking and beadwork. Boyer’s art and research are entrenched in Métis history, material culture and personal family narratives. Through the experience of long, slow and considerate laborious processes, Boyer contemplates the use of her own Métis body as a conduit for building upon ancestor relations and exploring notions of a mixed cultural identity. Boyer is an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art. (This talk was originally scheduled in May.)

About Zoom Zoom is an internet based video conferencing tool that allows users to meet online, with or without video. Zoom works best if you download the application in advance and set up an account. The download is available here: https://zoom.us/download. Once you have Zoom installed, click the meeting link to watch the lecture. For MAWA's lectures your camera and microphone will be turned off to prevent the speaker from being interupted. You can ask questions during the Q&A by typing into the Zoom chat function. Free, everyone is welcome!
