- 12:30pm – 6:00pm
There are spaces on the bus
This field trip will meet at the roundhouse of Brokenhead First Nation and continue along the river for a 90-minute guided walk of traditional medicine plants and their uses. It will be led by Taylor Galvin of Brokenhead, who is a University of Winnipeg guest lecturer in Indigenous plant knowledge. After the walk, there will be time for independent drawing, painting or writing, further exploration, questions or visiting.
Please bring your own lunch/snacks, drinks and art supplies. No dogs, please. Bug spray, sunscreen, hats and good walking shoes are recommended. We will meet and begin our learning at the roundhouse, which is wheelchair accessible, but unfortunately, because of the rain this year, the trail is not.
A free wheelchair accessible bus will depart from MAWA at 12:30 pm and return at 6:00 pm. (Note: masks must be worn on the bus.) You are also welcome to meet us there at 1: 45 pm in your own car. Take highway #59 to Brokenhead and turn right on Bison Drive. Go 5 km to the roundhouse.
Everyone is welcome! Galvin says, “I would like to help other Indigenous and non-Indigenous people learn about the importance of keeping our traditions alive for the next Seven Generations.”
