First Friday Lecture: Like Queer Animals by Chantal Nadeau

Queer scholar and writer Chantal Nadeau will discuss Like Queer Animals, her collaboration with visual artist Jessie Mott. Mott and Nadeau’s multidisciplinary practice reveals their abiding interest in reshaping creature morphologies. This talk marks the opening of the exhibition We Hold Your Gaze_Remix at MAWA.

Chantal Nadeau is a Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her scholarship centres on
ways sexuality exposes the legal, political, and visual (de)formations of the postcolonial. She is the author of Fur Nation: From The Beaver to Brigitte Bardot (Routledge 2001), and Queer Courage (Fordham UP 2023). Her creative works, Les trouées (Hamac, 2020) and Affamé.e.s, with illustrations by Mott (Hamac, 2023), are haunted by desire, trauma, violence and queerness.
